Soap Not Dissolving

“My dishes tasted like soap this morning” my client griped as she led me to her dishwasher, I see instantly why because I’ve looked at this sort of issue constantly over the past year.

Cascade Soap Not Dissolving

All of it has been with cascade pods or dish washing detergent, and the issue is that the soap doesn’t fully dissolve, instead of washing away it turns into this rubbery plastic gook that sticks to everything.

On the ones I’ve seen, and I’ve seen it on several different makes of dishwasher, the soap cakes up around and in the filter area. The one I’m working on today happens to be a Bosch dishwasher which is a fairly decent brand.

However, it’s just not engineered to handle that much buildup and residue.

Another one of my clients complaints was that the soap dish dispenser would not routinely open but would just do it sometimes.

To me, that sound exactly like soap residue buildup causing too much pressure on the springs because you’re having to force the soap dispenser door closed over all that residue.

Another known problem on these Bosch dishwashers, and many others, is that you have to make sure that the waterline coming into your dishwasher is hooked up to your hot water side under your sink.

Dishwashers used to contain hot water heating systems to heat the water in the dishwashers, but now the trend is to just tap them into the hot water side on the plumbing under the sink.

However, as in this clients situation, if the hot water heater is a long distance away, the dishwasher doesn’t really fill up enough to ever get the hot water.

The solution is to run the water at your sink until it is nice and hot and then turn on your dishwasher. That way you were assured of getting the hottest water available which is of great help and both dissolving soap and rinsing your dishes.

So my fellow techs, before you start replacing parts, check out that soap debris situation. Nothing is going to operate correctly with a system clogged with debris.
